Professor My laboratory is pursuing environmental prediction research, with a focus on various Earth environmental phenomena such as meteorological and hydrological events. I strive to advance the boundaries of this field by integrating Earth observation satellites and employing diverse prediction methods. Specifically, I am committed to enhancing and refining weather forecasts for extended periods of several weeks, and gaining a comprehensive understanding of the long-term impact of climate change on the water resource environment over a century.
To achieve my prediction refinement goals, I employ numerical simulations powered by state-of-the-art supercomputers and harness the potential of machine learning techniques. I will facilitate the fusion of forecast and observation data through statistical mathematics, including data assimilation. My ambition is to pioneer a groundbreaking environmental prediction science by conducting interdisciplinary research that spans earth science, computational science, and statistical mathematics.

Associate ProfessorI have been consistently engaged in research in the field of image information processing. Recently, my focus has been on developing technology that visualizes objects and phenomena invisible to the human eye by measuring and analyzing the propagation of light hitting a subject. Furthermore, I conduct research activities spanning technology development to support animated video production, exploration of stage production, and investigation of texture reproduction using CG. My efforts encompass a wide range of fields aimed at advancing imaging technologies.

ProfessorMy research focuses on the construction of an economic theory on sustainability that encompasses both capital bases and throughput resources. Also, I have been working on research activities to provide information on sustainability at the local government level to support policy formulation through a back-casting approach. This includes visualizing the impact of population decline and understanding the potential for decarbonization.

Associate ProfessorThe “intestinal mucosa” serves not only as a site for digestion and absorption, but also plays a crucial role in biological regulation, including the immune system. Through research on intestinal mucosal immunity, we are making efforts to establish treatments for diseases such as fibrotic and allergic diseases (e.g., inflammatory bowel disease and food allergy), which can result in multi-organ failure. Furthermore, in recent years, intestinal bacteria capable of crossing the intestinal barrier and infecting and translocating extra-intestinal organs have been regarded as the potential “causes of various diseases.” Therefore, we are conducting research aimed to identify and control pathogenic commensal bacteria. Our ongoing immunological research is progressing diligently and steadily.

ProfessorI am working theoretically on gravitational wave astrophysics to study astronomical objects and the universe while seeking to understand the fundamental laws of physics, including the properties of gravitational waves themselves. Because currently strongly-gravitating objects are the main sources of gravitational waves, I am particularly focusing on the spacetime structure around black holes and the nature of dense nuclear matter comprising neutron stars.
Recent Topics of Interests:
QCD phase structure, Supermassive binary black hole mergers, Dark matter detection through gravitational waves, Observation of Hawking radiation

Professor, DirectorI am dedicated to extracting the diversity, optimality, and robustness of biological movements to explore the fundamental principles of biomechanics and understand the distinctive forms, structures, functions, and systems exhibited by living organisms. By advocating the B3 (biomechanics, biomimetics, and bioinspiration) strategy, which involves imitating and norming these principles, I aim to foster the creation of Bio-inspired Engineering. This approach drives sustainable IoT technology innovation based on energy-saving and resource-saving manufacturing, facilitating the development of products that conserve energy and resources.

ProfessorI have a keen interest in exploring the solutions known as solitons in dispersive nonlinear partial differential equations. These equations describe a wide range of physical phenomena. However, in real-world scenarios, various disturbances arise, making soliton stability crucial for their practical observability. My research focuses on exploring the mathematical aspects of soliton stability.
