Tenure Track Associate Professor My research focuses on elucidating the physiological effects of the natural environment and natural stimuli on humans.
By measuring brain activity (using near-infrared spectroscopy to assess prefrontal cortex activity), autonomic nervous activity (evaluating parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous activity through heart rate variability), and endocrine activity (monitoring stress hormone concentration), we are accumulating scientific data on the physiological relaxation effects that nature brings.

1. Clarification of individual differences: There are individual differences in the physiological relaxation effects that nature brings. These individual differences have drawn attention as an issue that should be clarified in various fields, but research has not progressed significantly.
We are working towards understanding these individual differences by accumulating scientific evidence, including various approach methods.
2. Application to individuals with high stress: In previous research, the main focus has been on healthy individuals in their twenties. However, we are now advancing the investigation of the effects on individuals who experience high-stress levels in their daily lives, such as children with developmental disabilities and patients with depression.

Professor My laboratory is pursuing environmental prediction research, with a focus on various Earth environmental phenomena such as meteorological and hydrological events. I strive to advance the boundaries of this field by integrating Earth observation satellites and employing diverse prediction methods. Specifically, I am committed to enhancing and refining weather forecasts for extended periods of several weeks, and gaining a comprehensive understanding of the long-term impact of climate change on the water resource environment over a century.
To achieve my prediction refinement goals, I employ numerical simulations powered by state-of-the-art supercomputers and harness the potential of machine learning techniques. I will facilitate the fusion of forecast and observation data through statistical mathematics, including data assimilation. My ambition is to pioneer a groundbreaking environmental prediction science by conducting interdisciplinary research that spans earth science, computational science, and statistical mathematics.

Associate ProfessorThe “intestinal mucosa” serves not only as a site for digestion and absorption, but also plays a crucial role in biological regulation, including the immune system. Through research on intestinal mucosal immunity, we are making efforts to establish treatments for diseases such as fibrotic and allergic diseases (e.g., inflammatory bowel disease and food allergy), which can result in multi-organ failure. Furthermore, in recent years, intestinal bacteria capable of crossing the intestinal barrier and infecting and translocating extra-intestinal organs have been regarded as the potential “causes of various diseases.” Therefore, we are conducting research aimed to identify and control pathogenic commensal bacteria. Our ongoing immunological research is progressing diligently and steadily.

Tenure Track Associate ProfessorI am collaborating with the Institute of Fruit Tree and Tea Science, National Agriculture and Food Research Organization, to conduct research aimed at developing efficient breeding methods for fruit trees using genomic information. Specifically, I am working on the development of a method called genomic selection (GS), which predicts the characteristics of future fruits, such as pericarp color and fruit weight, at the seedling stage, enabling early selection.
